From: Statistical analysis of twenty years (1993 to 2012) of data from mainland China’s first intervention center for children with autism spectrum disorder

Figure 4

Numbers and proportions of diagnoses of ‘ autistic tendencies’, 1998 to 2012. The number of diagnoses of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is shown in blue bars and the number of diagnoses of ‘autistic tendencies’ is shown in orange bars. The proportion of diagnoses of ‘autistic tendencies’ is represented by a gray line. The data were binned by year of diagnosis (A) and age at diagnosis (B). Because the mean delay between the time of diagnosis and the time of application to the Beijing Stars and Rain Education Institute for Autism (SR) was approximately one year, most of the children who were diagnosed in 2012 had not yet applied; therefore, the number of diagnoses of ‘autistic tendencies’ declined in 2012. The children diagnosed before 1998 (A), and children with age of less than 1 year at diagnosis (B) were excluded due to small sample sizes (less than 30).
